The Grinch is alive and well it seems in Texas after hundreds of allegedly stolen packages and envelopes were found crammed into a Texas woman's car after police pulled her over Sunday night.
According to a Facebook post from the New Braunfels Police Department, officers were called out to the Caprock subdivision after reports of a "suspicious person possibly tampering with the community mailboxes."
Police say witnesses described the suspicious person driving in an older black Jeep Wrangler. When officers found the vehicle, they pulled over the driver, identified as 42-year-old Lana Krupka.
Several hundred envelopes, including packages and other forms of mail were discovered inside the Jeep.
“Based on the addresses from that mail, it was determined that the items had been taken from both the Caprock subdivision and the Legend Pond subdivision off of West Klein Road in New Braunfels,” the New Braunfels Police Department said in a statement Sunday afternoon.
Krupka, who was also allegedly in possession of methamphetamines, was taken into custody and taken to the Guadalupe County Jail where she was charged with possession of a controlled substance, police said.
Federal charges are also possible, as investigators from the U.S. Postal Service's Inspector General's office continue their investigation.
Officials with the postal service are working to return the packages and envelopes to their rightful owners, police added.
